Air quality plans - Article 23
Article 23 – Air quality plans

In order to be able to allow European Commission to have some influence on air quality plans which are elaborated according to Article 23, Directive 2008/50/EC chose the method of asking Member States to transmit to European Commission detailed information on the origin of the pollution, measures which are intended to stop the excessive pollution, past measures to improve air quality and their effectiveness, and the expected success of the measures of air quality plan, including the long-term effects.

By receiving this information, European Commission is able to assess whether the plan is likely to bring air pollution down as soon as possible, whether trends in air pollution allow an optimistic prognosis or whether other measures appear necessary in order to eliminate the exceedance of air pollution.
