Alert thresholds and limit values in Article 13
Introduction

 

Member States are obliged, under Article 4 of Directive 2008/50/EC to divide the whole of their territory into zones and agglomerations. This repartition has the purpose of organizing the measuring of air pollution according to the contamination of air which exists in each zone or agglomeration.

Article 13(1) provides that the limit values which are fixed in Annex XI of Directive 2008/50/EC shall not be exceeded. For sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, Article 13 provides furthermore alert thresholds; these alert thresholds are laid down in Annex XII.
