“Dinner with guest speaker Giuliana Civinini”

It has been a great honour to have Maria Giuliana Civinini, Presidente del Tribunale di Pisa and former agent for the Italian Government before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, as guest speaker at the first meeting of the Italian chapter of the Friends of ERA on the 24 October 2019 in restaurant "Alla Rampa" in Rome.

Judge Civinini spoke on artificial intelligence (AI) from the perspective of fundamental rights linking these topics to her experience as Italian Agent at the ECtHR.

Her presence and contribution to the evening were insightful and culminated in a lively exchange among the audience. The total number of participants at the dinner was 80, consisting of many Italian legal practitioners and ERA participants who were in Rome for the conference on "AI and the Criminal Justice System" on 24-25 October 2019. ERA was represented by Jean-Philippe Rageade, Deputy Director, and Laviero Buono, Head of Criminal Law.

The three-course meal in the heart of the historic centre of Rome, just a stone's throw from the Spanish Steps, was a wonderful setting for the event and we thank once again Judge Civinini for her commitment and contribution to a successful evening.

We do hope that this event will be the kick-off for a new Italian Chapter of the Friends of ERA.
