IED Principles
Public Participation

According to its Recital 27 and to its Article 24, the IED ensures that the public has a right to participate in the decision-making process, and to be informed of its consequences, by having access to:

  • (a) permit applications (in order to give opinions),
  • (b) permits,
  • (c) results of the monitoring of emissions and
  • (d) the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR). In E-PRTR, emission data reported by Member States are made accessible in a public register, which is intended to provide environmental information on major industrial activities.

Article 24 (2) and 24 (3), the competent authority shall make information available also online. In order to do so, referring to Article 14 (1d), the operator has to supply to the competent authority (at least annually) (a) Emission monitoring results and other required data and (b) summary of the results of emission monitoring (Article 15 (3b)).
