Enhancing Cross-Border Law Enforcement Cooperation to Reduce Drug Supply

The project

This project, sponsored by the European Commission, consisted of two seminars, which took place at ERA’s Conference Centre in 2014 and 2015. Both seminars focussed on practical experience in EU Member States, case studies and cross-border cooperation, as well as the latest tools to counter drug trafficking and supply reduction at EU level, with the aim having been to provide practical training for a broad spectrum of law enforcement and judicial professionals and practitioners in the field of reducing drug supply.

The majority of presentations given during the two seminars were filmed and are made available here as easy-to-follow video podcasts. Moreover, the detailed material from the background documentations that were given to all participants is also available here for further use and consultation purposes.

The concept

Each seminar was targeted at judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officials and ministry officials from all Member States, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey for the first seminar, as well as from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Moldova and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia for the second one. The trainings lasted 1 ½ days each.

Programme

The programme offered a mix of training methods, from lectures to panel discussions and question and answer sessions. At the heart of the training was an analysis of drug supply issues and steps to counter it. Participants' application of relevant instruments was improved through real-time training and knowledge-sharing. Mutual trust between participants was strengthened through a better understanding of the work of other Member States and EU actors in this field.

Networking opportunities

This project supported networking by giving the participants from various EU Member States and other countries the opportunity to make personal contacts with other participants and speakers, leading to an exchange of best practice and experience in the course of the offered training.

Organiser and Partners

The project was organised by the Academy of European Law (ERA).
