Prosecution Challenges Relating to Migrant Smuggling

The presentation looks at the prosecutorial challenges faced in relation to migrant smuggling from an Italian perspective, but also analysing the cross-border investigation issues that are faced. The irregular migratory routes by land and sea are explained, before turning to the smuggling networks and the Italian legal framework to deal with investigations into it. The presentation concludes with a look at international cooperation and investigative scenarios, outlining a case study that included a request extradition.
